Cucumber — Hmong White

These cucumbers come from seeds that Judy's mother carried when she fled Laos. They travelled through the Ban Vinai refugee camp in Thailand, then to Santa Barbara, then to Georgia, and now they grow here in Prince Edward County. We don't know the variety name — only that they've been with the family long enough that nobody remembers a time without them.

Thick-skinned with an exceptionally crisp, dense flesh. Excellent raw with chili salt, quick-pickled, or smashed and dressed with garlic and sesame. We grow them because they're part of who we are.
